Welcome to the team: Senior ABAP Development Engineer (m/f/diverse)
Your tasks
- Taking technical ownership of complex features and components in the SAP Credit (SAP FS-CML) landscape and related applications;
- Developing and maintaining a deep understanding of German Banking Law and Credit Processes over the entire life cycle of a loan and translate these into robust IT solutions;
- Building and extending knowledge for the current as-is solution and process flows (main parts based on SAP), and actively shaping the target architecture on SAP S/4HANA;
- Acting as a senior member of a cross-functional team that supports and creates solutions for Commerzbank’s core loan booking system, SAP Credit;
- Analysing root causes of system malfunctions, performance issues and data transfer problems in complex, integrated environments;
- Designing and implementing changes based on business needs using SAP ABAP, ABAP OO, and related SAP tools and frameworks (including CDS views, BAdIs, BAPIs, enhancements);
- Designing and developing services using OData, REST APIs and OpenAPI standard, including secure and performant integration with internal and external systems;
- Supporting and technically leading the transition project to CMS, CML on SAP S/4HANA.
- Using and promoting AI/GenAI tools along the development lifecycle, e.g.:
– SAP Joule and related SAP Business AI services;
– AI-based assistants for code generation, refactoring and review;
– internal bank AI tools for documentation generation, test case generation, log analysis and incident classification,
– participation in design and integration of AI-based components (e.g. recommendation or classification services) into SAP processes via APIs.
- Reviewing code of other team members, performing developer and integration tests, supporting test automation and creating/maintaining high-quality technical documentation.
- Acting as a coach/mentor for junior developers and supporting knowledge sharing within and across teams;
- Working in an agile environment (Scrum / Kanban) to deliver high quality, secure and maintainable software solutions.
Your Profile
- Strong programming experience with ABAP / ABAP OO, SAP development stack;
- Very good knowledge in SAP FS-CML / CMS on SAP S/4HANA;
- Strong understanding of end-to-end responsibility for design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance; contribution to definition and improvement of development standards and guidelines;
- Understanding and being able to challenge business requirements, propose the best technical and functional solutions, and align them with architectural and risk constraints;
- Interest in banking and financial services;
- Experience with AI tools to support daily work, including code assistance, documentation, test generation, and incident analysis; designing and integrating AI-based services, such as SAP Joule, SAP Business AI services, and internal bank AI modules, into SAP solutions via APIs and events;
- Ability to document, analyze and define technical concepts of credit business based on SAP S/4HANA / SAP FS-CML and CMS; participation in migration and transformation activities;
- Experience with the automation of test cases (e.g. ABAP Unit, API tests, integration into CI/CD pipelines), defining test strategies and improving test coverage;
- Previous experience in Agile Software Development teams;
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written English; German understanding is optional but considered an advantage.
- University degree in IT or relevant.

Loan and Restructuring Solutions (LaRs) provides cross‑product and cross‑segment tools for accurate, efficient risk screening and risk‑adequate processing of credit exposures. Within LaRs, we manage inventory and processing platforms for all domestic and international credit products (except for trade products).
The cluster is organized in cross‑functional teams consisting of business experts, developers, and operations specialists, bringing together a broad range of skills and personalities. We work in an agile setup to ensure efficient, customer‑centric software development and operations with a short time‑to‑market.
