Welcome to the team: Department Head Group Audit – Banking (m/f/diverse)

Your tasks
- You assume disciplinary and professional leadership of a newly established team of audit specialists with different levels of seniority.
- You actively build up the department, including team structure, processes, and audit methodologies, in close alignment with Group Audit standards, methodologies, and quality expectations.
- You serve as the primary point of coordination for Banking-related audit topics between the local Sofia team and Group Audit, ensuring clear roles, responsibilities, and information flows.
- You are responsible for the end-to-end delivery of internal audits across key banking topics such as Finance & Accounting, Credit Risk, Model Risk Management, Trade Finance, and Compliance Risk Management.
- You ensure effective planning, execution, and reporting alignment with Group Audit for cross-location audits and group-wide audit initiatives.
- Together with your team, you prepare clear, well-founded audit reports for senior management and the Board and coordinate key messages, assessments, and conclusions with Group Audit where required.
- You support the consistent application of audit methodology, assessment standards, and rating logic across locations and contribute to continuous improvements within Group Audit.
- You act as a trusted sparring partner for senior management of the audited units as well as for senior representatives of Group Audit, supporting the bank in strengthening its control and risk management framework.
- You foster talent development and continuous learning within your team and actively promote cross-location and cross-functional cooperation within Group Audit.
Your profile
- University degree (Master’s level preferred) in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, Economics, or a comparable qualification.
- Several years of professional and leadership experience, ideally within internal audit, external audit, risk management, or a financial institution.
- Strong expertise in at least several of the following areas: Finance & Accounting, Credit Risk, Model Risk Management, Trade Finance, Compliance / Non-Financial Risk Management.
- Solid understanding of regulatory and supervisory requirements applicable to banks.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to understand and assess complex processes in a group-wide context.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, particularly in an international and cross-location environment.
- Leadership personality with empathy, initiative, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic build-up and matrix environment.
- Very good English skills (written and spoken); German is an asset but not required.
- Open for business trips to Germany and our Commerzbank international branches.

As Department Head Group Audit – Banking , you will be responsible for building and leading a newly established audit department in Sofia. Your team will consist of audit specialists covering a broad range of banking-related risk areas, including Finance & Accounting, Credit Risk, Model Risk Management, Trade Finance, and Compliance Risk Management.
In this role, you will act as a key interface between the local Audit – Banking team in Sofia and Group Audit, ensuring consistent audit coverage, methodological alignment, and effective collaboration across locations. You will actively contribute to the Group Audit strategy while ensuring high-quality, risk-oriented execution at local level.
