Welcome to the team: Senior AI Engineer with Python (Business Connectivity) (m/f/diverse)
Your tasks
- Designing and implementing AI-powered agent systems for root cause analysis and operational intelligence;
- Building and maintaining integrations with internal systems via APIs, MCP servers, event streams, and message brokers (e.g., Kafka);
- Designing retrieval pipelines using embeddings and vector databases;
- Implementing context engineering strategies (chunking, re-ranking, token optimization, retrieval tuning);
- Developing structured data models to correlate logs, incidents, monitoring signals, and deployment events;
- Building, deploying, and operating services in cloud environments;
- Designing CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows for AI services;
- Ensure security, compliance, and auditability in a regulated enterprise context.
- Continuously evaluating emerging AI technologies and translating relevant market developments into product improvements;
- Contributing to architectural decisions in collaboration with enterprise architecture teams;
- Working in an Agile team setup.
Your profile
- Several years of professional software engineering experience with Python;
- Strong experience building production-grade systems (not only prototypes). Experience designing and operating agent-based or retrieval-augmented systems. Understanding of LLM evaluation strategies, hallucination mitigation, and observability for AI systems.
- Solid experience with embeddings, vector databases, and retrieval optimization;
- Very good API design and integration skills. Experience working with event-driven architectures and message brokers (e.g., Kafka). Familiarity with OAuth2 and OIDC
- Experience with Containerization, Kubernetes basics and cloud services;
- Good understanding and experience in setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, with a strong understanding of GitOps tools (e.g., ArgoCD), container registries, Helm charts, and modern deployment workflows.
- Knowledge in the field of Software Architecture;
- Deeply curious about AI advancements and continuously stay up to date with market developments;
- Good team player with a high ability to work in cross-locational and international teams;
- University degree in IT or relevant.

The Business Connectivity Cluster drives Commerzbank's transformation into a digital technology leader by developing and advancing essential integration technologies, including APIs, TokenManager, Kafka, MFT, and MCP. These tools form the backbone of our digital infrastructure, enabling innovative and seamless customer solutions in the German market. We are building an AI-powered incident intelligence platform that integrates with internal enterprise systems (via MCP servers) such as API logs, monitoring tools, incident management systems, and deployment pipelines. For this, we are looking for a Senior AI Platform Engineer with a strong software engineering focus and solid DevOps capabilities to design, implement, and evolve this system from prototype to production scale.
